If someone were to tell me that the 2008-2009 Boston bruins would sit atop the Eastern Division this far along in the season, I would have told them to take a hike. But, as we all know, the Boston Bruins do sit atop the Eastern Division, and currently are in second place overall in the NHL. This year has held a lot of surprises for the bruins, mainly the play of Michael Ryder and Blake Wheeler. Ryder was said to be “washed up” if you will, after he was benched last post season by the Canadians for poor play. However Ryder has re-emerged with the Bruins and has got some swagger back in his game. Wheeler, a rookie, has shown great promise, and has been contributing on a regular basis for the boys in black and gold.
